The Medicine Service at JCUVet is an essential part of our referral hospital, providing expert diagnostics and advanced treatment options for complex medical conditions in pets.

Our medicine team is led by James Foster who is a Feline Specialist who has worked in Small Animal Referral Medicine for over 20 years. Our team is the largest Medicine Referral service north of Brisbane, comprising specialists and registrars (specialist trained clinicians), interns and highly trained and experienced Medicine nurses.

Our team has a diverse background of training, ensuring innovation and unique approaches to the treatment of complex diseases in dogs and cats.

With access to advanced imaging (CT, Philips ultrasound, digital radiography), on-site pathology, a dedicated chemotherapy ward, video endoscopy and 24/7 nursing support, we are equipped to diagnose and manage a wide range of internal medicine cases with precision and compassion.

Neurological conditions (seizures, vestibular disease, spinal disorders)
Oncology & cancer treatment (chemotherapy, tumour diagnostics)
Blood disorders (anaemia, clotting abnormalities, immune-mediated diseases)
Liver, pancreatic & gastrointestinal diseases (hepatitis, IBD, pancreatitis)

Advanced Cardiology Services

Our medicine team also provides expert cardiology services for pets with congenital and acquired heart conditions. We perform:
Electrocardiography (ECG)
Blood pressure checks
Echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound)
Holter monitoring
